1. (Sir) William Guyer Hunter (1827-1902) F.R.C.S., F.R.C.P.; born Calcutta; appointed assistant surgeon in the Bengal Medical Service in 1858; served during the Mutiny. In 1858 he was appointed Professor of Medicine in the Grant Medical College, Bombay, and became Principal in 1876. The College prospered under his administration, the number of students attending rising from sixteen to two hundred.
