1. (Sir) William Aitken was appointed Professor of Pathology of the Medical School at Netley in 1860 on the recommendation of F.N. who had known him in the Crimea. (See 431 n.1).
2. Charles Morehead (1807-1882) M.D., F.R.C.P.; as first principal of the Grant Medical College, Bombay, Morehead contributed much to the cause of native medical education in Western India.
He gave evidence before the Royal Commission on the Sanitary State of the Army in India. In spite of the opposition Dr. Morehead became the first Professor of Military Medicine at Fort Pitt in 1860.
