General Hospital, Balaclava
14 June 1856
Expresses on behalf of the Ladies and Nurses in the hospitals 'deepest acknowledgments' for the Sultan's munificence, all of which they will greatly appreciate; the Sultan ' has treated the sick and wounded of the British Army as his guests; the gift of a beautiful bracelet to her personally is deeply appreciated; she suggests the Lady Nurses should receive ornaments instead of money; for the Sisters of Mercy at Bermondsey and the Sisters at Devonport, a sum of money the proportion to be determined by the amount of service; and to each nurse, money in proportion to length of service and devotion to her work; the money should go to the families of the nurses who died at their posts.
