Their paths have taken them so wide apart in life that she can only say that she has always felt that they were each of them striving to do the work for which God had made them; and it has been the principle pleasure to feel that they were both doing their own work and not playing at it; she has never wished him to lay aside his work to help with hers; the uncertainty as to what will happen next; she believes that no greater calamity than this war could befall Europe, except a peace at the moment.
