This letter is very long and impossible to summarize. It has been published by Colonel H.W. Jones in Bull.Hist.Med., 1940, 8, 1389.
1. Maria Otter was the daughter of William Otter, Bishop of Chichester, and sister of Mrs. Strutt. She married Sir William James in 1846, and their daughter Julie, who married Col. G. Salis Schwabe, corresponded with F.N. during the Franco-Prussian War on the business of the Aid Society.
