F.N. has been staying with Mrs. Octavius Smith for the last week looking after the children; three pleasant weeks spent at the Combe during which she saw a great deal of the children as Miss Wickstead was away; dear Bee's forwardness; Shore and Gerard disporting themselves at Embley; the beauty of the babys; F.N. hopes to return to Combe; but Aunt Jane is again confined to her bed with the excitement produced by William Nicholson's sudden departure to join his regiment in Australia.
