Thanking Mme Schwabe for her kind letter, and asking her to use the enclosed £20 for whatever Society may seem best, for the starving people round Metz and Sedan; F.N. cannot acquit the Prussians, and believes 'German unity' means only Prussian 'aggrandizement', and Prussian aggrandizement means only crushing military rule over the most highly educated nations of the earth, 'stamping out all civil freedom and political progress; desirability of employing the poor women round Metz and Sedan to make up clothing and paying them for their work.
