'Private & Confidential; No. 2% more on the problem of Miss Osburn's resignation; it arose from a letter of hers to a relative, who printed and circulated it; 'I dare say there is not a wise man in history who has not written a sillier letter. But I question very much whether there is a goose in history who has ever printed a sillier letter.' Of course, they in London had no authority to deal with the resignation, but Miss Osburn could only learn from them whether any harm had come of the affair.
