She was overcome with joy at the news of Beatrice's engagement to Godfrey Lushingtonl though she deplores the loss to Lea, to her father and to the 'preaching' the 'stuff'; 'But for all that, though an old maid myself, and never having regretted my old maid-enhood for one moment, I rejoice with exceeding great joy.'
