1. In a letter dated 21st Sept. 1865 from Sydney, Maria S. Rye gives some account of herself. After travelling around England 'following in a humble way' in F.N.'s footsteps, correcting abuses in hospitals and lunatic asylums, she left England with a party of female emigrants. She described the conditions of the Tarban Creek Asylum, New South Wales and drew F.N.'s attention to a paper by Drs. Cox and Brereton published in the Sqdneq Herald of 2nd Sept. (Maria Rye's letter, B.M. Add.MSS.45799.f.178,)
